Former Gamecocks DL Kobe Smith makes XFL debut

XFL

The XFL officially kicked off this weekend. The South Carolina Gamecocks have one former player active in the league: defensive lineman Kobe Smith.

Smith was signed by the San Antonio Brahmas. He made an impact in his XFL debut. In the third quarter, Smith and defensive end Mike Tverdov sacked A.J. McCarron for a loss of eight yards. It was Smith’s only tackle of the game. As a team, the Brahmas generated five sacks, but they still lost to the St. Louis Battlehawks 15-18.

In college, Smith played four seasons for the Gamecocks. He appeared in a total of 35 games, recording 84 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, and two sacks.

In the NFL, Smith had stints with the Tennessee Titans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Atlanta Falcons.

Smith and the Brahmas will take on the Orlando Guardians on Sunday. The Guardians are led by quarterback Paxton Lynch and safety Matt Elam. They lost their first game of the season to the Houston Roughnecks 12-33.
