Former South Carolina Gamecocks guard A.J. Lawson shined in his debut with the Texas Legends in the G-League.

Lawson scored 28 points (12-20 FG, 4-7 3PT) to go along with 13 rebounds, four assists, and three steals. The Legends defeated the Oklahoma City Blue 121-117.

The Dallas Mavericks signed Lawson to a two-way contract in December. He has appeared in eight games for the Mavericks this season; he is averaging 1.8 points and 0.4 rebounds in 3.1 minutes per game. He has made three out of his seven three-point attempts.

Lawson played three seasons for the Gamecocks. As a junior, he averaged 16.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.5 steals across 21 games.

Lawson went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft. He played for both the Miami Heat and Atlanta Hawks during summer league. He went on to sign with the College Park Skyhawks, Atlanta’s G-League affiliate. In 2022, he played for the Mavericks during summer league. He signed a two-way contract with the Minnesota Timberwolves in July, but he was waived a few months later.

If Lawson continues to impress in the G-League, he could earn more minutes in the Mavericks’ rotation.
