Former South Carolina Gamecocks cornerback Carlins Platel has signed with the Philadelphia Stars in the USFL.

In college, Platel played three seasons for Assumption College (Division II). He transferred to South Carolina in 2021. In his lone season with the Gamecocks, he recorded 21 total tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two passes defended, and two forced fumbles.

Platel was not selected in the 2022 NFL Draft, but the Pittsburgh Steelers signed him as an undrafted free agent. He played during the preseason, but he landed on the injured reserve with a leg injury. The Steelers waived him in March.

Despite a 4-5 record, the Stars are leading the USFL’s North Division. Platel could make his debut this week in their regular season finale against the Michigan Panthers.
