The South Carolina Gamecocks have offered 2026 athlete Samari Matthews. He announced the news on Twitter.
“Blessed and humble[d] to have received an offer from @GamecockFB thank you @togray14 and @CoachSBeamer really appreciate it,” he wrote.
Matthews attends William Amos Hough High School in Cornelius, NC. He is listed at 6’0″ and 172 pounds. As a freshman, he played cornerback. In 13 games, he recorded 33 total tackles, one tackle for loss, and one interception, per MaxPreps. As a result, he was a 4A third-team All-State selection.
Despite only being a freshman, Matthews has already garnered offers from Appalachian State, Charlotte, Colorado, East Carolina, Kentucky, Liberty, Maryland, NC State, Penn State, Tennessee, and Virginia Tech. Deuce Recruiting lists Matthews as the top 2026 recruit in the Carolinas.
The Gamecocks have now extended offers to 13 members of the 2026 recruiting class, including quarterback Julian Lewis and in-state cornerback J’Zavien Currence.
