Minnesota transfer guard Ta’Lon Cooper has committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks. He shared the news on Twitter.
Cooper attended Dorman High School in Roebuck, SC. He played his first three collegiate seasons for Morehead State. In 2022, he transferred to Minnesota.
Last season, he averaged 9.8 points, 6.3 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.1 steals, while shooting 37.8 percent from three. His 6.3 assists were the second-most in a single season in program history, trailing only Marcus Carr in 2019-20 (6.5).
He spoke to On3’s Joe Tipton about his decision:
“After my visit to South Carolina, I had a feeling I haven’t felt in a while,” Cooper said. “After being away from home the past four years, it just feels right to be back. Having the opportunity to play in front of my family and friends for my last year of college ball is an experience I can’t wait for.”
Cooper is a big addition for the Gamecocks, who were in desperate need of a guard. Guards Chico Carter Jr. and Ford Cooper Jr. entered the transfer portal, while Meechie Johnson declared for the 2023 NBA Draft.
